Undergraduates
Welcome Undergrads!
For Christian undergraduate students eager to think Christianly in their field of studies, and share the gospel with other students, the Cambridge Christian Study Centre is here to support you. Investing in godly intellectual and theological foundations now can help you across the course of your degree – and in what it leads you on to next.
The Study Centre serves Cambridge-based Christian undergrads both with its dedicated weekly rhythms of study, conversation and hospitality. Our undergrad members enjoy booking a desk, studying amongst other Christian peers and making use of our reference library and refreshments provided.
Undergraduate students are invited to come and study with us on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays during University term-time. Each day there is a lunch discussion on a particular theme and either side of the lunch you are welcome to make use of the study desks. Desks are available for members to book through our online site (details below).
Mondays: Undergrad Day
On Mondays the Study Centre is reserved exclusively for undergraduate students. Mondays therefore provide a wonderful opportunity for undergrads to connect with Christian peers, to enjoy fellowship and to spur each other on in their studies.
The study day follows naturally from the undergraduate Christian Union’s weekly prayer meeting (Unite Prayer), hosted in the Round Church, every Monday from 8am to 9am; many undergrads choose to reserve a desk for the morning and extend their time of fellowship while they work on their weekly assignments.
Previous Monday lunch discussions have involved:
- Augustine’s City of God book discussion
- Meditations on Psalms, with walks round Jesus Green
- A guided reading of Brad Green’s The Gospel and the Mind (from the Study Centre library)
CICCU and the Study Centre
The Study Centre enjoys a close partnership with the Cambridge Inter-Collegiate Christian Union (CICCU) – the undergraduate society which seeks to make Jesus known to students at the University of Cambridge. CICCU exists as the local expression of UCCF, the national organisation which brings together Christian Unions across Great Britain, in their shared mission of sharing the gospel with the student world. Tim Laurence and Anja Lijcklama a Nijeholt, two members of our team are employed by UCCF, and work as partners with Kez Heasman and Sam McQuaker, our local CU Staff Workers.
In the past, we have joined with CICCU members to help organise the ‘Thought Festival’, an opportunity for students to share the relevance of the gospel in each of the academic disciplines. Thought Festival events proclaim the truth at the heart of our mission at the Study Centre: that Jesus is the one before all things, who holds all things together, in whom are all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge (Col 2.3). We believe the gospel has something to offer to every area of human thought and life.
